He understood why she did this, why she always insisted that he stay inside where it was safe. The world around him was dangerous, he was almost certain that in the back of his memories he could remember seeing that danger first hand. However, what he didn't understand was why he couldn't more or less freely roam Lynchwood. Sure, the town wasn't the most kid friendly or safe place around, but he knew most of the people still living here, despite being bandits, were loyal to his mom or at least smart enough to not fuck with her kid.
So, because he couldn't find anything else to do with himself, the boy had gotten a wild idea in mind. He wouldn't go far, just a little ways outside of the house, he knew the path down like the back of his hand more or less from walking it with his mom, who wasn't home at the moment to watch him or tell him no to his wandering. He saw this as opportunity to finally do something other than the same things he did every day stuck inside.
The tiny boy's eyes were wide with curiosity as he slipped down the path from his house into the main road through the town, glancing around and feeling like the biggest little badass on Pandora. He was out here hanging out among bandits and skags, AND he was disobeying his mom's direct orders! It was a double whammy of awesome that the wild child felt all the more cool and awesome for.
Of course, now that he was out and about, he was making it his personal goal to talk to and poke at whatever person he came across, all danger sense lost in the wake of his unbridled excitement over this whole thing.

Lynchwood had never been a vastly populated settlement, and that number had dropped a bit in recent years. But there were still a good handful of assorted sketchy characters that called the place home, the sorts that no matter what they might do outside the bounds of town, just wanted to live quiet and laid low lives while they were here. It was pretty much the best and only way to stay alive around here, just don't draw attention to yourself. But in some situations not saying or doing something could possibly have worse results. And this was just one of those weird situations where it was pretty much impossible to tell which way it would go no matter what they did.
The two men along with a woman that looked about as weathered as the men did, all dressed in worn clothes and heavily armed, stood in a little cluster where they talked, one of the letting out a burst of raucous laughter as the other flicked a cigarette butt down onto the train tracks they were standing beside. The woman paused though, reaching out and slapping one of the men across the shoulder before nodding and pointed in Lenn's direction. The other two turned to look at the young boy as well as he wandered closer. Pretty much everyone in town knew who the kid was, they also knew he didn't just wander around by himself like this and it set them all a bit on edge.
"'Ey kid...everything cool? Don't usually see you just wandering around here on your own..." One of the men said a little pointedly, glancing around as though expecting his mother to just pop out of who knew where without much notice, even if she wasn't particularly the hide and ambush sort, when she could just be the show up guns blazing sort.

Lenn liked being close to the train tracks, he liked how loud and rumbly everything got when one of the heavy trains came roaring through, so that had naturally been the direction his feet had taken him, with little regard as to whether he should be heading out this way. More bandits and such seemed to live closer to the tracks, but again, Lenn was hardly worried about any of them. Most everyone knew him, enough to know that hurting him would be bad for them anyway. He intended to take advantage of this self assured feeling and make himself at home, more or less.
He looked up when he heard the voice calling out to him, giving the man a wide grin and waving wildly, "yeah! everything's cool!" He chuckled, trotting right up to the group and looking between the three of them, "Mama's gone, so I decided to leave and have a look around!" He chirped, clearly not in the least bit worried about getting in trouble, or what these three might do to him, "whatcha talkin' about?" He tilted his head, tugging on one of their shirts, "cool bandit stuff?!" He grinned wide, bouncing on his feet with a wild little grin on his face.
He vaguely recognized the three here with him, he did almost everyone in town even if he didn't know anyone by name. These three seemed nice enough, at least their first response hadn't been to pull a gun on him, or to take him home, "I get bored all cooped up! So I decided to hell with it! I'm leavin'!" He grinned wide, then looked between them, "what sorta stuff do you guys do around here for fun?" He tilted his head with a grin, looking curious.

The three exchanged odd sort of looks as Lenn blithely went on about how without his mom around he'd just decided to come wander around town on his own. This was one of those weird sort of situations that they weren't quite sure what to do with, if they should just send him back towards his home again or not. But at the same time they couldn't just go away and leave him here, and letting him tag along with them presented it's own sorts of complications. It was one of those situations where they still stood a good chance of getting shot by a pissed off Sheriff no matter what they did, so they should just make the best of it and start coming up with their best alibis and excuses right now.
One of the guys seemed slightly less concerned though, turning to Lenn with a bit of a gap-toothed grin. "Yeah, bandit stuff! We went on this raid and were talking about this guy that we..."
He was cut off as the woman punched him hard in the shoulder with a severe warning look. "This...guy...that we saw that had skag puppies...yeah, that was it. And they were really cute!" She was quick to add in instead, to spare the young boy the worst stories of their violent exploits.
The other man caught onto what she was trying to do, also turning a bit of an awkward smile to Lenn. "Yeah. Fun stuff. We just, you know, do stuff that's fun. And, you know...help people...clean...things?" He said, obviously mentally scrambling for the right sort of 'good influence' stuff they could say to this kid. From that grin on the boy's face he half imagined if they said half the stuff they really did he'd want to go do it all himself, and there was just no way that was ever going to happen.

Lenn leaned in as the one guy started to spill the beans on just what they were doing, flinching a little when the woman punched him and cut him off. Skag puppies. How dumb did they really think he was? He crossed his arms over his chest and looked up at him from his very far down vantage point, clearly unimpressed by their lame excuses, "uh huh..." He eyed the other man and woman suspiciously, clearly ready to call them on their bullshit, "do you think I was born yesterday?" He scoffed, puffing his chest out and coming up closer, "I'm six, not one. Pull the other one!" He smirked.
He eyed them, then struck an important stance and pointed at them each in turn, "it's not right to lie y'know, especially not to an impressionable child!" He pulled an innocent face, then narrowed his eyes and smirked, "now, you're gonna tell me aaaaall the juicy details!" He giggled, clasping his hands together, "and then you're gonna let me hang out with you!" He came up closer, "if you do, I'll tell my mama you took super good care of me and brought me right home!" He eyed them, "if you don't, I'll tell her you took me to play with the skags!" His expression became very cheeky, "deal?" He held out his hand to them, eyeing them expectantly.

One of the guys couldn't help but laugh at Lenn's older-then-his-years sarcasm. "Hey, I like this kid." He grinned. "You got attitude, kid, you're alright." he decided. He half looked like maybe he thought about reaching down to ruffle up Lenn's hair or something a little, but clearly thought better of it the next moment.
The other guy also seemed a bit in the mood to press his luck a little and grinned back at Lenn as he listed his demands to the bandit trio. "Yeah but...what if what we were going to do was go play with skags?" He teased. "And if you hung out with us that's what you'd be doing anyway?" He seemed slightly less concerned about getting ratted out to the kid's mom than his companions were at the moment.
The woman just rolled her eyes at them both, elbowing the one talking about skags in the side. "You guys are not helping." She growled at them, before turning a rather forced sweet smile back to Lenn. "Well it seems you're not leaving us a whole lot of choices, are you kid?" She was still pretty sure this was going to end up getting them all shot at a bunch no matter what they did, but such were the risks one took living around here.
She looked at his offered hand but didn't seem inclined to take it, instead the first man to speak did and gave Lenn a firm handshake. "Look, you can hang out with us if you want. But what you see us doing right now is pretty much what we're doing today. It's not gonna be all crazy and exciting. It might even be kinda boring." He warned, taking a couple steps back to sit on a nearby empty crate, looking as though he was planning on settling in here for a while. Maybe the kid would just get bored and wander off on his own, that was always an option too.
